About the Waterford Jr. Wolverines Baseball & Softball Club

The Waterford Jr. Wolverines is a baseball & softball club based in Waterford, WI and fields players from Southeastern Wisconsin.  The Jr. Wolverines is a traveling program and tryouts are held annually for boys or girls who wish to play for the organization.

As a community focused club, our goal is not just the development of strong players, but to help build and strengthen the character of our players through the positive reinforcement of our coaches.  The same principals and fundamentals our coaches instill in our boys and girls to become better players on the field will help drive their success off the field as they become confident and positive leaders in our schools, our community, our state, and the world.

Being chosen to coach and mentor your son or daughter is not a responsibility we take lightly.  Our goal is to maximize the development of your child through programming that challenges each player, a coaching staff that adheres to high standards, first class facilities & equipment, and the development of community between our players, parents, and coaching staff.

Thank you for considering the Waterford Jr. Wolverines Baseball & Softball Club for your child.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions for concerns.

When do the Baseball & Softball seasons start and end?

For our baseball teams, each Head Coach is responsible for setting their team’s schedule, both for league games and tournaments.  Generally, teams begin playing their league games in May and end the season with a league tournament mid-July.  Tournaments are then played during that same time period.

Softball adheres to a more defined schedule set by the league itself, with each age group playing a certain night of week.  Games typically start in June and are played weekly until the end of July when the league tournament is played.  Like baseball, softball Head Coaches determine their tournament schedule and they are typically played during the same time period.  Many coaches will schedule a tournament before the league play starts.

Do the Jr. Wolverines practice in the off-season?

As part of club dues and fundraising efforts, the Jr. Wolverines Baseball & Softball club pays for practice time at the Stiks Baseball Academy in the off-season.

The club has historically rented the first floor of the facility, including the turf field and batting cages, with all of our teams getting 45 minutes of time in each area of the facility.

Off-season training is typically held every other Saturday from December until March, depending on the weather and when teams can get outside in the Spring.

How many regular season games do your teams play?
Do the Waterford Jr. Wolverines play in tournaments? Where?

Based on input from parents, the head coach of each team sets the tournament schedule prior to the start of each season.  This usually consists of three to four tournaments.  While teams will occaisionally attend special tournaments, like in the Wisconsin Dells, most tournaments will be in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Will my child have to tryout for a team? When are tryouts?
Yes.  Players in the Jr. Wolverines program are selected from a tryout held each year.  The date of the tryout varies each year, but it is generally held in July.  Please check our web site and social media pages for tryout announcements.  You can also be added to our mailing list for ongoing communication from the club.
What are the cut-off dates that determine what team my child will be on? i.e. U8, U9

The leagues organize teams based on the player’s age.  For instance, your child may be in third grade, but still play on a U8 team based on his or her birthday.

For baseball, the age group is determined by whether or not the player’s birthday is on or before May 1st of that season.  For softball, the divisions are based on the players birth year, with some birth years being combined.

How much does it cost to play for the Jr. Wolverines? What is included?

The club dues are $350 per player for the entire season.  In addition, each family is required to purchase four tickets to our Annual Beer & Wine Tasting Fundraiser, which totals $160 ($40 per ticket).  Two of these tickets are kept to attend the event while the other two are sold to the general public, which allows families to recoup $80 of the ticket costs.

These fees and fundraising go to pay for the player’s uniform, helmet & bat bag, along with all the costs of playing for the season.  These costs would include league dues, umpire fees, tournaments fees, insurance and access to an indoor practice facility in the off-season.

The only equipment your player will need is a bat, glove and socks.

Does the Waterford Jr. Wolverines organization require fundraising?

Each family is required to purchase four tickets to our Annual Beer & Wine Tasting Fundraiser, which totals $160 ($40 per ticket).  Two of these tickets are kept to attend the event while the other two are sold to the general public, which allows families to recoup $80 of the ticket costs.

One parent from each family is required to work one hour at the event for each player they have in the program.  They can spend the rest of the evening enjoying themselves!

If my son or daughter plays for the Waterford Jr. Wolverines, can he also play on a rec team?

Between the number of practices, games and tournaments each participates in every season, there would typically not be enough time for your player to also participate in a rec program.

Do any of your teams play in a tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park?

Typically, our teams will begin fundraising at a young age with the goal of participating in a destination tournament during their U12 season.  We leave it up to the individual teams where they would like to travel.  Some teams choose Cooperstown while others opt for another tournament, like the Cal Ripken venues.

Each tournament has its own advantages and disadvantages.  We let each team choose the best fit for their goals and desired experience.

Do your teams play fall ball?

While individual teams can choose to participate in fall ball, the club does not organize or pay for teams to play in fall ball leagues.  If a team chooses to play, it is up to that team’s parents to pay any fees and handle registrations.  Teams can, however, use the club’s insurance to play.

Annual Club Dues & Fundraising Requirements

The Waterford Jr. Wolverines Baseball & Softball Club is committed to providing the best possible baseball & softball experience with the least amount of financial burden for our parents.  Given the high cost of fielding baseball and softball teams, this becomes a team effort.

The proceeds from our single fundraiser provide the majority of operating funds for the season. Our uniforms, umpire fees, league dues, tournaments, indoor practice facility and all the other tangible benefits of being a member of the Waterford Jr. Wolverines are only possible given the success of this event.  One parent from each family is required to work one hour at the event for each player they have in the program.  They can spend the rest of the evening enjoying themselves!
